Spring has officially sprung! As the weather begins to warm and we all shake off the winter blues, Virginia Wine Country is beckoning us to visit. When you’re filling your calendar with exciting outdoor activities, make sure to put Virginia Wine destinations on your list.
Enjoy the outdoors
There’s no better way to cap a hiking trip than settling into a beautiful tasting room with a glass of refreshing wine. When you’re mapping out your trails, find one close to your favorite winery. If you want to do something a little more outside the box, horseback riding can be found throughout the state (1, 2, 3), and one winery offers a kayak trip right up to the tasting room.
Wine and dine
Pair the gorgeous weather with a meal at a winery. Indulge in weekend brunch, find a great food event, or enjoy a special wine dinner. Dozens of wineries also have a dedicated picnic area — so pack a basket of your favorite snacks, a blanket, and grab some wine in the tasting room to enjoy.
Festivals
Festivals are one of the most fun ways to discover wines you enjoy while spending time outside with friends. Because of Virginia’s diverse regions, there’s a festival for everyone. You can celebrate cherry blossoms, Holi, Rosé, bud break, and more. Events are continuously updated by wineries throughout the season, so make sure to check back when you find yourself with a free weekend to fill it with #vawine.
Pick up your favorites
Springtime could mean your palate is ready for something a little lighter and more refreshing. If you love the pink drink, stock up on rosés from around the state. Crisp wines are perfect during the longer daytime hours (we also highly recommend Virginia Petit Manseng to satisfy this crispy craving). Or maybe you want to try something completely unexpected — look for Rkatsiteli, Albariño, or Gewürztraminer.
We hope you enjoy Spring in the Commonwealth! Continue to check back here for more activities, pairing recommendations, and all things #vawine.
